SADLER’S WELLS MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME WITH ROSEMARY LEE
I’m over the moon to announce that I’ve recently been selected for the Sadler’s Wells Mentorship Programme - a year-long programme of mentoring for ten choreographers and dance makers. Through it, I am being mentored by the legendary Rosemary Lee.
Rosemary is a choreographer, filmmaker and performer. Highlighting our relationship to our surroundings, her practice centres around the significance of community, space and place. Over thirty years, her choreographic practice has found itself through many different mediums – creating large scale, site specific works, video installations and short films. Rosemary’s work is a huge source of inspiration for me, and her approach to engaging with communities aligns strongly with my own artistic values and practice.
I am looking forward to deepening my understanding of community engagement and contextualisation – navigating the process of choreographic co-creation. I will be expanding my understanding of how to make my work more inclusive, relevant, and resonant for the participants I collaborate with.
This opportunity is a huge milestone for me and feels like a really pivotal moment in my career – offering me the chance to reflect on and develop my approach to making work.
Mentorship is invaluable – offering encouragement, perspective and meaningful guidance to an artist’s growth. During my time on Studio Wayne McGregor’s PEER programme, I had the privilege of being mentored by Monica Nicolaides - an international choreographer and movement director whose work spans dance, opera, theatre and film. Her mentorship massively enriched my creative movement practice – shaping the way I approach dance making. I’m excited to continue this journey of artistic development under the guidance of Rosemary Lee OBE.
I’m particularly keen to explore how Rosemary’s approach might influence my ongoing work creating public installations through movement and projection.
I can’t wait to share more of my journey with the Sadler’s Wells Mentorship Programme.
